Kombucha is the Elixir of Life!!
Kombucha is an extremely healthy probiotic beverage, made by the fermentation of a Scoby. Scoby stands for Symbiotic Culture of Bacteria & Yeast.
Anything probiotic is considered very healthy, including yogurt, sauerkraut, kimchi, kefir, and of course, the lead role of our article: Kombucha!! These fermented products all have live bacterial cultures, known as probiotics, which are great for the immune system, a healthy gut, skin, and overall well-being.
People have known the beneficial health effects of Kombucha for an extremely long time. Some of the first documented Kombucha brews were as early as 221BC in Asia. Non-coincidentally, some of the longest life expectancies in the world are in parts of China & Japan where Kombucha originated.
In the Former Soviet Union (USSR) and currently in Russia, Kombucha has always been regarded as an extremely popular healthy drink. Almost every one of the 30 million people would have Kombucha in their household, referred to as Mushroom Tea (Грибной чай). The scoby was known as a Jellyfish (Медуза) - although some would argue it looks more like seaweed or beige coloured Algae.
Throughout the years Kombucha has obviously evolved, especially when brew-masters began to add a second fermentation to the process involving fruit & herbs, making an even more flavourful healthy drink. Due to the fact that Kombucha has never made it into mainstream media (yet), the full host of its health effects are still being discovered, and full potential still needs to be reached. Nevertheless, most medical research would agree that Kombucha far outweigh the health benefits of most drinks on the market, especially the ones filled with artificial flavours and gross amounts of sugar.
Let's talk sugar! We add ZERO sugar to the final product. The fermentation of fruits is all that's needed for an extremely delicious drink - whereas proportion & type of fruit will accommodate just about anyone’s preferred sweetness level.
We only use sugar during 1st fermentation, since all scoby's need sugar and tea to live & grow. Throughout this delicate first fermentation, the scobies consume most of the sugar for themselves and release Kombucha. It is here that we pour this freshly made Kombucha into its final bottle, add fruits for sweetness & extra health benefits for our Bucha Nation to enjoy.
Countless studies have shown improvements in gut health, energy levels, body detoxifying, and overall well-being from this mystical drink.
